Follow the yellow brick road!
Contemporary gift retailer, Enesco, has unveiled its new Wizard of Oz by Jim Shore collection, in a heartfelt tribute to the film’s 80th anniversary.
Taking inspiration from the 1939 cinematic masterpiece, it sees Dorothy and her pals venture down the yellow brick road to somewhere over the rainbow. The Emerald City figurine stands at 20.5cm tall and is set to be a hero piece of the collection. It depicts Glinda, the good witch of the North, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion, Dorothy and, of course, Toto the dog too. Set against a backdrop of the iconic Emerald City, this piece embodies each characters’ individual traits of courage, kindness and intelligence, making it a thoughtful gift to someone special, or a sentimental self-purchase for avid fans of the movie.
Hand-painted in vibrant colours with intricate quilting patterns, synonymous with Jim Shore’s style, are visible in the scene. As with all of his work, the scene reveals his artistry and skill, not only in capturing the qualities of each character he sculpts, but also enhancing them in his own unique American folk art-inspired way, through his attention to detail and hand-painted finishes.
